April 23, 2022 : Notion released a new Status property not yet documented or announced by Notion HQ. This property has two types of representations: Checkbox or Select.

The Select option allows you to choose a status category between “Not Started” / “In Progress” / “Done”. The Checkbox option is just some kind of formatting, visual representation of these categories.

While a standard checkbox works like a True/False boolean trigger, the new Status property is text-like, whatever it’s representation (Checkbox or Select) : prop("Status") == true wont work with the Checkbox option but prop("Status") == "Done" does.

→ The whole new Status property is text-like.

Status property is Text-like

Whatever, with some relation and rollup, a cool feature allows you to fetch some data : In the rollup options you can choose between Count per group or Percent per group. This time, the possible results are Text or Number :

Rollup option Result (example) Type Real value when used in formula
Count per group 2/5 Text “2/5”
Percent per group 40% Number 0.4

Example :

Untitled

What now? With some formula you can, of course, build some progress bar!

The problem? Not really a problem but if you want to use the Count per group (for visual presentation inside your template) and do some math in a formula, you’ll have to do some conversion (or you have to use another rollup property to get the additional numeric Percent per group value) : the Count per group is some text and not a number. More, 0.4 is the real value (example) but you maybe want to use the “% value” (= 40) as an additional information to the Count per group presentation.
